Origami Cicada Bug
This traditional Japanese origami cicada is very basic, it’s great to make with children because you can decorate it with eyes afterward.
Being one of those designs that only resembles the shape of the real version (the cicada), it does take some imagination to see a cicada!
We recommend using small paper once you have learned to make it. Using smaller paper will result in a more “bug sized” cicada.

Step 1: This is the front of the origami paper, the cicada will have this as its main colour.
Step 2: This is the back of the origami paper.
Step 3: Fold the top point down to the bottom point.
Step 4: Fold the top right point diagonally down to the bottom point.
Step 5: Fold the top left point down to the bottom point.
Step 6: Fold both flaps up to the top point. You can also angle these flaps outward a bit, this will make the wings further apart.
Step 7: Fold one layer from the bottom up, leaving a small gap.
Step 8: Fold the bottom point up, again leaving a gap.
Step 9: Rotate the paper and flip it over to the other side.
Step 10: Fold the left and right edges to meet in the middle. You can overlap them slightly so that you can slot one into the other.
Step 11: Flip the paper over to the other side. You can now decorate your cicada if you wish!
